I grew up where the pews carried generations of prayers, where the choir loft amplified voices of hope, and where faith, family, and fellowship intertwined so beautifully that it became a part of our DNA.

Our Sundays were not just days of worship—they were days of community, of love, of becoming. Dressed in our finest suits, hats, and gloves, we held our heads high and shared life together. 

Auburn & Ivory honors both the strength and resistance of the Black Church (“Auburn”) and the spiritual melodies of gospel music (“Ivory”), symbolizing the piano keys.

More about why the founder created Auburn & Ivory: As I moved through life—earning degrees, building a career, and traveling the world—I felt something still humming for deeper exploration. I carried the traditions with me, but, the fullness of that sacred connection needed rekindling. It wasn’t until I returned through song—through choir, through choral music, through Spirituals—that I found myself rooted once again. I surrendered to the Spirit that had never left me.

Auburn & Ivory was then born. Inspired by the fans I once held as a young girl, by the saints who came before me, and by the resilience that gospel music breathes into our very souls. Auburn & Ivory is my love letter to the Black Church—and now, something to be shared with everyone. 

We live in a time when preserving stories, songs, and sacred spaces matters. The songs that carried our community through the joy and pain of the human experience—Lift Every Voice and Sing, We Shall Overcome, I’ll Fly Away, Great Is Thy Faithfulness—are not relics of the past; but are living calls to action.
